Why is there such a big difference in the prices of
pot grown bedding plants such as Geraniums and Fuchsias?
Like all things in this life "you get what you pay
for!"
The cheapest plants are those grown from seeds. Plants
produced in this way will not be identical to the parent plant or to other
plants from the same batch of seeds. This is the type of plant generally
sold in "discount" nursery outlets - but we have some too!

You will pay more for a
plant that has been grown from seed if it has been specially bred to provide
the best flowers or leaf colour, because the breeder owns the "copyright"
and charges a Royalty Payment for allowing production to take place.
The very best bedding plants have been specially bred,
(the price includes a Royalty Payment) and to make certain that the young
plants are identical to the original, they have been produced from cuttings
taken from the parent plant. This is the premium type of Geranium as sold at
the Chelsea Flower Show... |
